Here we go again!

Welcome to the blog, Camilla here. It's been a long and winding road to get to this point but once again I find myself reworking this domain name for what feels like the hundredth time in order to have an outlet for my design work. This website has been in existence in some form or other since 2001 and I've struggled with it so often, leaving it to languish before changing it into something else. It's been the outward face of my frustrations - whether that was exploring my identity as a teen when personal blogs were a big thing or my (often) love/hate relationship with graphic design. I'd like to think this time will be different - read on to see why I think so.

Back at school, I found out that I had a bit of skill in graphic design and as it was one of my highest achieving subjects, I was encouraged to pursue it further through college and university. Seeing as I never had a lightbulb moment where I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, I was happy to follow this path and see where it led. I've always had my own mind but being quite the people pleaser, I spent a fair bit of time trying to fit into the traditional mould of a graphic designer. You know, those witty logos, negative space, clean lines, tons of confidence and super cool to boot. None of that is me. I'm a quiet, sometimes awkward but definitely geeky girl who likes living in the countryside (specifically near the coast), spending time with my dogs, family and pursuing random hobbies like rollerskating and dog agility.

After university, I worked as a freelance graphic designer which was incredibly eye opening working with so many different companies and people. What I eventually found though, was that I became burnt out by the hustle and hassle of it all and felt that my passion and creativity was so restricted. I wanted a change of scenery which came in the form of picking up my camera again (having studied photography at college). I thoroughly enjoyed it and started building up my photography business which has already been so incredibly rewarding in such a short space of time.

However, the yearning to be creative is still there, coupled with the fact that photography (weddings, primarily), is quite seasonal and that it's still growing, I find myself with extra time that I want to channel into something useful. Cue, this domain.

I'd like to think that I can happily make bits and bobs to sell on here and see where it all goes. I've spent most of my life up until this point winging it and probably will continue to do so because, well, simply put, that's just me. Instead of trying to fight it, I'm just going to go with it and see where it takes me and what I can create. I hope you'll stick around for the journey because knowing me, it's going to be a rollercoaster that you wouldn't want to miss. Seriously, if something crazy is going to happen, it'll definitely be to me. I'm just a magnet for craziness. Stick around and you'll see.

Until next time,

Camilla x
