A New Chapter

Welcome to the blog, Camilla here. It's been a long and winding road to get to this point but once again I find myself reworking this domain name for what feels like the hundredth time! This time, it's to turn the site into a gateway for all the projects I'm involved with these days.

It's really interesting to revist the last incarnation of this site. It was being used as an outlet for the exploration of my creative side once again. I was working on building up my business as a wedding photographer but still wanted to be creative (as I can never stop doing that for too long!)

Interestingly, I'd talked about just winging it and seeing where it all led to. The idea of winging it and making things up as I go along has long been a feature of my life and approach to work. However, over time I've grown as a person and this approach doesn't serve me anymore - I'm not sure if it ever really did!

Much as I loved the wedding photography and I learnt so many useful skills, it was never really meant to be. So many things threatened to derail me and I was intent on not giving up until the crunch point at a wedding. I was two hours from home, halfway through shooting alone with no signal when out of nowhere I had a panic attack. I'd never experienced one before and I have no idea how I got through the rest of the day but it was horrendous. Luckily I still got all the images for the couple (who were none the wiser about my predicament), but to carry on photographing weddings felt unfair. It wasn't fair to myself to have that worry in the back of my mind and it wasn't fair on the couples either - they deserve a photographer who is wholly focused on them and documenting their special day, not half worrying if they'll get all the images if they have another panic attack. I quietly completed my remaining bookings with a second shooter and didn't book anymore.

So I wound up looking at design work as my way forward once again. But this time I knew I had to stop winging it. I had to go all in. And in order to do that, I needed to work on my own terms and following my own interests and passions. No more freelancing for other companies or working on projects I wasn't interested in. I set up Tecassia to follow my passion for book design while focusing on my main interests; books within the spiritual, holistic, self improvement and wellbeing genres. From there it's grown to a select amount of books I hybrid publish and I ghostwrite and coach authors too. I love it.

I have several other projects on the go too and this site aims to be the place where I bring it all together. Because every project that I run or am part of, is a facet of me. I firmly believe in the meaning of the Greek word 'meraki' which essentially means "to pour one's soul into their work".

Plus, I have to say, after owning this domain for nearly 20 years now, I'm pretty attached to it and wouldn't want to see it disappear into the ether. I've no idea how this will grow or how updated I can keep it based on how much I have going on but it feels good to have an overview of who I am and what I do. Makes me feel really important ;)!

Until next time,

Camilla x
